Fitness Centre Code of Conduct

Fitness Centre Etiquette: Please check in at the front desk upon arrival.

Equipment & Space

• Return dumbbells, barbells, plates, and other equipment to their proper place.

• Wipe down equipment after every use (benches, machines, mats, handles). Use the provided disinfectant spray and towels.

• If others are waiting, limit rest periods and offer to let people work in between your sets.

• Keep walkways and areas clear. All coats, bags, and bulky items must be left in the locker rooms.

• All gym equipment must remain within the gym boundaries.

Hygiene & Personal Conduct

• Wear clean, appropriate gym attire and indoor-only athletic shoes. No outside footwear, dress shoes, boots or sandals are allowed.

• Respect Acadia University campus-wide “Share the Air Policy”.

• Food is not permitted. Any beverages must be in closed-lid containers.

• Clean up any messes immediately.

• No jeans, belts or metal on the equipment, as they may damage the upholstery.

Noise, Phones & Behaviour

• Keep phone use minimal and quiet. Avoid speakerphone, long calls, or loud video watching. Step outside or into a designated area for calls.

• Any videotaping and photos can not include other gym members for privacy reasons.

• Behaviour deemed unacceptable by the fitness centre staff will not be tolerated.

• Excessive yelling or screaming is not allowed. Profanity will not be tolerated.

• Respect personal space. Avoid standing too close or hovering.

• Don’t stare or make others uncomfortable. Focus on your own workout.

• Most people prefer to train without commentary unless they request help.

Safety & General Courtesy

• Use equipment as intended. Don’t slam or drop weights excessively.

• During peak hours, keep appropriate rest periods and avoid occupying multiple stations.

• Respect time limits on cardio machines (45-60 minutes) and any house rules.

• Report broken equipment to staff instead of leaving it for the next person to discover.

• Be polite and patient. A simple “mind if I work in?” or “thanks” goes a long way.

• We are not responsible for lost or stolen articles.

• No chalk is permitted in any part of the facility.

• We ask you to leave the fitness centre by closing time.

Fitness Centre Age Policy

Individuals 14 years of age and under are not permitted to enter or use the gym.

Individuals who are 15 years of age may use the gym only when supervised at all times by a responsible adult (18 years of age or older).

Individuals who are 16 years of age and older may train independently.

Staff are authorized to verify age and enforce this policy. Failure to comply may result in denial of access or membership privileges.

Consistent courtesy makes the gym a better place for everyone!
